Frakce je skupina spojenců, ať už rasových nebo ideologikých. Většina v herních frakcích je popsána ve Warcraft Lore, ale některé byli představeny ve World of Warcraft. Většina frakcí ve World of Warcraft jsou spojeny s reputací, který má hráč u každé frakce. Frakce se nachází v seznamu Reputace.
Termín frakce se také používá na dvě hratelné frakce ve World of Warcraft: Alliance a Horde. Každá hratelná rasa (kromě pandaren) je specificky spojena s jednou nebo další frakci a všechny hráčské postavy se automaticky přidají do určité frakce. Pandarenské postavy jsou výjimkou a musíte si vybrat frakci, když opustíte Wandering Isle, kolem 10. úrovni. Jakmile je jednou vybrána, frakci postavy nelze změnit.
K dispozici je však placená služba Faction Change, která může tuto funkci provádět. Pro všechny rasy kromě pandarenů vyžaduje použití této služby také změnu vaší postavy na novou rasu, která je v souladu s novou frakcí této postavy.
